Do you prefer hotels or bed and breakfasts when you stay somewhere? I enjoy both. It depends on the location and purpose of my travel and the Bed and Breakfast itself. But when you find a bed and breakfast where the owners of Black Walnut Inn, Amherst make you feel like you are part of their home. They serve homemade cookies; you book your stay, and you are handed the cutest key to your bedroom and the most delicious cooked breakfast.

Amherst is a quaint community. A couple of coffee shops and mom-and-pop restaurants with quality food. A cool record store, bars with local bands playing, and safe enough to walk around in the evening.

My kids enjoyed ( or maybe it was forced enjoyment) the Emily Dickinson Museum. Hearing her childhood story and seeing her family's home was pretty cool. I love history and being somewhere where a historic and impactful individual once stood.
FYI. It is temporarily closed as its currently undergoing renovation.
But how perfect is the name of our room after we visited the Dickinson museum.

The rooms of the Inn are what you would expect from bed and breakfast. What I love are the unique touches. You skip the comfort and luxury of a high rise hotel to experience something special and memorable. The Black Walnut Inn gives you this same experience. Marie is the Innkeeper, and her son Dan is the owner. They are so friendly and personable, and my brother, who has visited there multiple times, keeps in touch with them personally. The owners tell you everything you need to know about the place.
They have ten rooms, and they will give you as much privacy as you need. So if you like to be left alone when you are staying, they will do so, but if you want to socialize and enjoy a little more attention, they can accommodate you.

Marie makes the most delicious jam. We purchased a few jars during our checkout. The strawberry and apricot were our favorites.

I love it when you wake up and smell breakfast cooking. we happened to be the only ones at breakfast and having someone cook you blueberry pancakes once you arrive at the table, hot off the griddle.
Our stay was fabulous and I felt like I was being pampered. Plus I could not stop snacking on their snickerdoodle cookies.
Have you stayed at Black Walnut? Tell Marie hello from me.
Cheers,
Lisa
