Romantic Getaway in Bermuda

Let me start off by saying if you are looking for a resort that is quiet, romantic, with delicious food, tasty, unique drinks, and wonderful service Rosewood Bermuda at Tuckers Point is the place for you. On this trip, we were looking for quiet time and we were only there for 3 nights. It was a very quick trip. So we did not have time for a lot of activities and I really wanted to downshift. The resort is definitely a luxury getaway and perfect for couples.

The island of Bermuda is only about 20 miles long. It was a quick 15-minute drive from the airport to our resort. I have had exhausting experiences getting through airport customs on other trips, but this was extremely quick and efficient I think it took us about 10 minutes to get through the airport and to a taxi. Other places could take a queue from Bermuda Tourism.

We noticed right away how friendly everyone is on the island. The crime rate is extremely low and the locals know how critical tourism is to their economy and they are all well educated and traveled. It was fun during our cab rides sharing some of our favorite places to visit in the states. I found a couple of Disney fans. Speaking with the head bartender at the resort Cayman stated Bermudians are raised from birth to be friendly. He said that if you took local bus transportation you would hear everyone greeting and speaking to each other. We need more of this in the U.S

A little tidbit: During one of our cab rides we were asking the driver about some of the other properties. He mentioned that St Regis is new but everyone that has stayed there has been complaining about the service. This was actually the other hotel we looked at staying but we read similar reviews. Keep in mind, that new hotels always have kinks to work out with staff, so give them a bit more time and they will get it worked through.

Our resort was tucked away from Hamilton and any of the downtown activities as well as the other resorts. I really felt as if we were on our own private island. When you walk in you are greeted by not only the friendliest staff but a beautiful, quaint lobby.

When we checked in, there was not a soul in front of us. We saw one couple walking through the lobby. We checked in around 2 pm. When booking your plans, keep in mind that Bermuda is 1 hour behind Eastern Time Zone.

THE RESORT PROPERTY

I love meeting people on trips and I struck up a conversation with a woman at the pool. She and her family are residents there. They have raised their kids in Bermuda. Their children are both in college in the U.S. Her oldest is close to graduating and will be moving back to Bermuda for her career. He was going to be a prosecutor but changed to an attorney because prosecutors are not in demand in Bermuda.

The crime rate is basically null. Everyone that lives here is well educated and raised to be friendly and kind. They could not imagine living anywhere else.

There are 4 pools on the property.

  • Beach Club pool which is oceanfront and the infinity pool

  • The spa pool

  • A smaller pool is nestled in the back of the hotel

  • The largest/Main pool is pictured below and in the center of the resort.

If you want bar service, choose the Beach club pool or the large pool pictured below. There are more seats at the large pool and neither was busy.

The picture below shows the pool without the cushions because they are removed each night. Each of the chairs has cushions and they are pretty comfy.

GOLF COURSE ON PROPERTY

The golf course is really pretty but it is extremely hilly. So if you are up for a challenge that has amazing views of the ocean from almost every hole, I highly recommend playing. You can rent clubs and play the course for just above $300.

WHY IS THIS SAND PINK?

Many people think Bermuda is part of the Caribbean Islands. I would group it in the dreamy Caribbean getaways. but it is actually on the Atlantic Ocean. The water is gorgeous shades of blue.

Yes, it is true. The sand is pink in Bermuda. The picture below does not do it justice.

The flecks of pink in the sand are stunning in the sunlight

So how does it get this pink coloring? The pink sand on Bermuda’s beaches is created by red-shelled Foraminifera, bits of coral, and crushed shell mixing with soft, white sand. The remnants of the tiny invertebrate, red foraminifera ,mix with the white limestone sediment to make rosy beach sand. And it’s all thanks to the marine ecosystem surrounding our little island. I was geeking out as I did some research after we got settled in on a pool chair.

One thing that is very common in Bermuda are the white buildings against the beautiful blue backdrop. Once you get downtown you see a lot of the pastel colored buildings you would expect.

What floored me was how crystal clear and blue the ocean water was all around the island. I have traveled to several spots along the Atlantic coast of the U.S>and nothing else compares.

One thing you need to be prepared for is the beach is not right out of your hotel room. So if you are wanting to wake up and walk to the beach outside the hotel back door every morning, then this may not be the resort for you. We could see the ocean from our balcony every morning. However, we had to take the resort shuttle to actually get to the beach. It is on the property, but it is 2 miles away from the hotel. It is easy to get a shuttle. They run every 15 min but I do not think we waited more than a couple of mins each time we took the hotel shuttle.

THE DREAMY HOTEL ROOM

Have you seen the movie, 'The Ugly Truth' where Abby is called out that she probably booked a hotel room on high floor away from the elevator. Well, that is one smart girl! And I totally agree. I mean, you have a hard enough time sleeping in a hotel room in the first place why would you want to be next to noise. Am I right!

Of course we wall want a clean room, room service, towels kept stocked, an updated air conditioner that is not blowing air in your face. The normal standard we expect when we are traveling.

But there are other things I look for in a hotel room as well that make it dreamy.
  • A bathroom with counter space that you can get ready in and does not feel cramped. It makes it so hard to dig through all those products you brought if you can not spread them out and see them.

  • Down comfortor and soft pillows and NOT a hard mattress. Softness please.

  • A balcony with a pretty view and a comfy chair for coffee each morning and room service that will deliver coffee.

  • Separate door for the toilet. Not a pretty discussion but no one needs to know what is going on there. Leave some romance and mystery. LOL

  • Water refreshed daily

Bonus features:

  • A steamer, so I do not have to bring mine, or Dave does not have to bring mine LOL.

  • A bar in the shower to shave Most hotels do not have this, but a few of them are starting to put them in their showers. Swan Reserve at Disney World has them. This hotel did not and it makes it very hard to shave.

  • Chairs at the right height so when you are sitting you can actually see the view from your balcony. Most of them tend to hit right at the top bar of the balcony so you have to slouch down to get any kind of view.

Rosewood checked off quite a few of those boxes for me, including many of the extras. The room was spacious and the bathroom not only had double sinks with counter space but it had a separate table outside of the bathroom with a mirror for me to do my makeup. Plus there were french doors by the bathtub that allowed you to see that view off the balcony while getting ready in the bathroom. Check out my InstaStory Highlights for a video of the room.

Ok, it may sound extra to some of you, but be honest, when you are traveling you want comfort. I want to decompress from the day to day activities of my life and all of those things add to me being able to unwind and just relax.

TIP: When checking into your room ask the front desk for higher floor & away from the elevator. There is less noise that way. I am a light sleeper and hearing lots of foot traffic and noises keeps me up at night.

Also, if you have a balcony, request the appropriate direction of your hotel room. If you know you will be sitting out there in the morning and its July, ask for afternoon or evening sun. You can spend your time sunbathing at the pool.

What we found funny and different about the set up of the hotel were the room numbers. I also have a TikTok video that talks through our experience with finding our room. So our room happened to be on the 4th floor and it was room 409. The room # on the door was 9. When we first got off the elevator and saw single digits on the doors we thought maybe we got off on the wrong floor or wing and this was a floor for suites.

THE BITES AND A FEW COCKTAILS

This is of course the most important part. There are 3 restaurants on property.

  • Island Brasserie : - hours 7:00- 9:30 pm for all 3 meals - located at the hotel

  • Sul Verde : hours 11-9pm, bar is open til 11pm -located at the golf course

  • Beach Club : hours 11:30 - 9:30 with a pool menu avail at 11am - located at beach

We tried all 3 restaurants. We had breakfast every morning at Island Brasserie. We loved everything we had. The staff was extremely nice and it has a great outdoor patio area with a very nice view. I did find I liked the coffee better when we ordered by cup and just had it refreshed, vs when we ordered a pot. It seemed to be more bitter.

Tip. Sit more centered on the patio for a better view. Also the roosters are roaming on the grounds right next to the patio and it is very cute and entertaining.

We also had our first dinner at Island Brasserie. I have a fun video of our Crepes Suzette on my IG Bermuda highlight as well. One of my favorite things about traveling somewhere near the water is having fresh catch. If I am in Boston, I will order lobster, if I am in Bermuda I am going to order fresh catch and a local fish. We both like tuna and it was always one of the fresh items available while we were there, and it was absolutely delicious. Another local fish was Wahoo. I had not tried this fish before but we ordered it as a ceviche and it was delicious. I really enjoyed it.

Tip: Ask your waiter what the fresh catch is and which one they would choose.

There was not anything we had for breakfast we did not like. But some were our favorites: I love oatmeal and it was really interesting in what they served with the oatmeal. Check out my IG breakfast post to see what they served.

I also love pancakes for breakfast. I prefer sweet over savory. The fruit was so fresh and the pancakes were cooked very well. I was not a huge fan of the banana bread. I bake a really good chocolate chip banana bread. I do not cook, so it is one of the few things I cook well and enjoy baking. Theirs was a tad dry. Dave said it needed some butter or something and then it would have been good.

Try the fruit anytime you get a chance while you are there. It is very fresh.

I walk through all of our other meals on my Instagram page between the posts and Bermuda highlight section. Check it out to see the other dishes and places we loved.
