Sushi Night at Kimonos

My boyfriend and I love sushi. It is also the perfect date night. I feel the ambiance of a sushi restaurant is always a good excuse to get a little dressed up to go out. Especially when so many of us are working from home on zoom meetings. You know you have leggings on below that camera. LOL

Kimonos is a sushi restaurant in the Walt Disney Swan Hotel by Marriott. If you are not familiar with the Swan or Dolphin hotel. They are Marriott hotels that are on Disney property in the Epcot resort area. They are nestled between Boardwalk and Yacht club. Both have all the same access rights to Disney, only you can not use the magic bands in their hotel. Also, if the dining plan ever comes back, which personally I hope it does not. (The meal quality at the restaurants is so much better without it) The Marriot hotels are not included. The room key thing is kinda annoying, I wish Disney and Marriott were better besties so those privileges, as well as the bus system, was universal. Otherwise, I can personally live without anything else.

Kimonos is tucked down the first-floor hall on the opposite side of Il Mulino. Kimonos have limited hours, so check their website before planning your visit. Last month, they were closed on Monday and Tuesday when I was there. They also do not take reservations, and it is a small space, So I recommend arriving early if you want to ensure you get seated promptly. You can grab a seat at the bar, or they have three rows of seating, including a couple of couches.

TIP: In addition to their couple-page menu , if you have a favorite sushi creation that is not listed on their menu, they will make it for you pending they have the ingredients.

We have a favorite sushi dish that I first tried in Nobu in the Bahamas, and I crave it whenever someone says ‘sushi.’ The dish is Jalapeno Yellowtail Tuna. It is so simple but delicious. The sauce mixture with the jalapeno ring on top of the thinly sliced tuna is the perfect pairing. The seeds are removed (mostly), so you may get a slight kick, but there isn’t any heat in the dish.

We also ordered the vegetarian gyoza and pork gyoza (aka potstickers, if you are more familiar with that term). They were seared perfectly.

As far as wine goes, I am typically a dry red drinker but when I eat sushi, I always prefer drinking sauvignon blanc. The light crisp taste of the wine pairs great with the sushi, especially if you do any of the spicy options. Plus, if you are going for a light meal, you should go for a light wine.

We were not starving, so we added on a couple of rolls. One of which was spicy tuna roll, which is also another favorite. If you have not tried it yet, don’t let the spicy make you pause. It has a little kick but does not set your mouth on fire. It is a nice balance with the rice and crisp and freshness of the rest of the ingredients. The second roll with the eggs and lemon, I have to say, neither of us remembers what that was? Oops. I forgot to write it down, but it was good.

I love sushi because you can eat a variety of items and never feel overstuffed. Plus, it’s healthy. Disney has a handful of sushi restaurants, but this is one of our favorites because of the ambiance. It is also quiet and off the beaten path. You are welcome to dine in your park wear, but you can also feel comfortable dressing up for a date night. Give it a try, and let me know your thoughts on Kimonos.

Cheers,

Lisa
